The client lived on the first floor of a brick two-flat, but had never been happy with the size of the kitchen, it lacked an adequate eating area and was cramped.
A small space in the porch structure was used as an office, but was either too cold or too hot and was also cramped.
The kitchen space was expanded into the porch area which was reinforced and insulated. The back stairs were reconfigured to get the maximum space possible. An island was constructed opposite a small TV cabinet. There was additional space for a love seat and built-in office area. Cabinets were extended to the ceiling to maximize storage.
New rear steps and a trellis structure were added along with new siding and windows. The kitchen now feels open, airy and can allow the family to eat, watch TV and interact in a bright, airy room.
