Kilpatrick Ave. Bungalow Addition
A couple wanted to add space to the attic level of their bungalow, and relocate the stairs to gain space at the kitchen area. The existing stairs were very narrow and steep. The existing pantry also was a bit tight.
They wanted to add two bedrooms and a bathroom to the second level and keep the addition somewhat modest. The rear porch structure was unheated and needed structural reinforcement.
The stairs were relocated to the front of the house, off of the living room. To increase flow and usability of the living room, the front door was relocated. The door to the back bedroom was moved to give more wall space in the kitchen.
With the added space from the stairs and more wall surface, the kitchen was enlarged and an eating area was created. The enclosed porch was removed at the kitchen window to increase light and connection to the exterior.
Two bedrooms and a bathroom were added to the second floor, with a sloping ceiling at the outside walls to lower the roof line. Floor joists were reinforced, insulation added, and storage areas created.
